Wall Street Journal on Saudi Demolition of Sacred Monuments
(8/19/2004) – Yesterday’s Wall Street Journal carried a front-page story reporting on the Saudi government's current drive to eliminate all vestiges of sacred relics in the Kingdom, reverence for which they claim is a form of idolatry.
Noting this story was slow in coming to light, ISCA chairman Shaykh Hisham Kabbani said, "We commend the Wall Street Journal for reporting on this tragedy, where Middle Eastern news agencies dismissed it as irrelevant. In reality Saudi influence on Islamic politics prevents even fair reportage of anything critical of the House of Saud. ISCA renews its call to the Saudi government to halt the demolition of historical sacred monuments and relics."
