Legislators form new Pakistan/Kashmir Caucus
Muslims urged to support their efforts
(Washington, DC 06/09/00) – The formation of the Pakistan/Kashmir Caucus marked a pivotal turning point in the advancement of Muslims in the U.S. political process.
The unresolved crisis over the governance of Kashmir has finally captured the attention of our legislators and we must take our role in encouraging such progress.
We congratulate the courageous and notable work of Congressman Major Owens [NY] who formed the Caucus and for his dedication to peace, security, and stability in South Asia.
Islamic Supreme Council of America met with Congressman Owen and the coordinators of the Caucus to discuss the development and implementation of its goals, including the importance of the Muslim community in its success. We are proud to be an integral and valuable resource for the Pakistan/Kashmir Caucus and urgently appeal to the Muslim community to support our efforts in this endeavor. ISCA will provide the Caucus with educational and historical data about the region, as well as presenting various diplomatic solutions to implementing peace.
We send an urgent plea to all national Muslim organizations, their constituents, and the Muslim community at large to encourage their members of Congress to join the Pakistan/Kashmir Caucus. The participation of many Congresspersons is the only way to ensure the viability of the Caucus, its mission, and its policies.
ISCA commends the brave efforts of Congressman Owens and the Caucus and will continue working to bring peace to Kashmir.
