Japan Welcomes the Naqshbandi-Haqqani Tariqat

May 7

May 7, 2001 marked the beginning of the first visit of the Naqshbandi-Haqqani shaykhs to the country of Japan.

Arriving at the Narita Airport in Tokyo, Mawlana Shaykh Nazim, Shaykh Hisham and their aides were greeted by Shaykh Ni'matullah, Shaykh Rais Siddiqui, and an Indonesian Graduate Student at Tokyo Institute of Technology.

Shaykh Ni'matullah told us that Maulana Shaykh Nazim is his Shaykh, and that he and Shaykh Nazim were together for about four years working for da'wah in mid-1970's. He also met Maulana Grand Shaykh Abdullah Daghestani, and he knows Shaykh Hisham Kabbani very well from past meetings.  Shaykh Ni'matullah is 75 years old. He informed us that his father, grandfather and uncles are the descendants and followers of the Naqshbandi Order.

During a brief rest at the hotel in Tokyo, Shaykh Nazim and members of his family who accompanied him enjoyed views of the city. In the distance, the Imperial Palace can be seen from the hotel balcony.
That afternoon, the delegates took a trip to Toda Masjid at Toda-koen, Saitama for a dinner event hosted by Shaykh Rais Siddiqui and Shaykh Ni'matullah.

This is the Masjid's plaque.

Following a warm ceremony to welcome Mawlana Shaykh Nazim and Shaykh Hisham by the community of Saitama and the congregation of Toda Masjid, Mawlana Shaykh Nazim gave an inspiring talk.

A number of `ulama and Japanese converts came to meet the Shaykh after hearing of his visit through the Internet. Upon meeting the Shaykh a number of non-Muslims accepted shahada while several Muslims requested initiation into the Naqshbandi Order. Some of the new mureeds are members of the US military based in Japan.

Here Mawlana Shaykh blesses a young child...

and greets others who came to hear his talk.
