Announcing ISCA’s Nationwide Agenda to Support the Pakistan-Kashmir Caucus

(Washington, DC 07/24/00) – ISCA announces its nationwide agenda to mobilize support for the Congressional Pakistan Kashmir Caucus.  This Caucus is the only officially recognized entity in the U.S. Government uniquely positioned to defend the rights of Muslims in South Asia, particularly Pakistan and Kashmir.

 However, the Caucus WILL NOT SURVIVE without the support of the Muslim community! We must contact our respective Congressional representatives, urging them to join the Caucus and to actively support its platform in Congress.  If the Caucus is forced to dissolve due to lack of Congressional participation, Muslims will only have our own lack of commitment to blame. In addition, it will take years to recover the integrity lost to such a failure.

 Muslim leadership must initiate grass roots efforts amongst their members across the country.  We appeal to the members of organizations such as the Muslim Public Affairs Council, the American Muslim Council, and Islamic Society of North America to contact their leaders and insist they institute programs to support the Caucus. Unity of purpose and dedication is the only way we as a people will thrive and succeed.

 Please note that to date no other congressperson has joined Major Owens in the Caucus.  This reflects not only the difficulty in getting Muslim issues recognized, but our own lack of dedication to the plight of Kashmir.  A Pakistan Caucus was formed several years ago but failed due to lack of support.  We must not let that happen again with the Pakistan Kashmir Caucus.
