ISCA
Attends White House Ramadan Iftar Dinner
Chairman Shaykh Muhammad Hisham Kabbani Meets
with President Bush

(Washington,
DC 11/8/2002) The
Islamic Supreme Council of America (ISCA) was honored to join
other Muslim leaders from around the world yesterday evening
for a traditional fast-breaking feast, or iftar, at the White
House. ISCA Chairman Shaykh Muhammad Hisham Kabbani was warmly
received at the event by President George W. Bush, who told
him and other invitees that America is not at war with Islam.
"In
hosting tonight's iftar, I send a message to all the nations
represented by their ambassadors here tonight: America treasures
your friendship. America honors your faith," the president
said. "Tonight's iftar also sends a message to all Americans:
Our nation is waging a war on a radical network of terrorists,
not on religion and not on a civilization ... No one should
be unfairly judged by appearance or ethnic background, or
religious faith ... America rejects all forms of religious
intolerance. America grieves with all the victims of religious
bigotry. And America opposes all who commit evil in God's
name."
As always,
President Bush, with his spiritual demeanor, greeted the American
Muslim community and the ambassadors of Muslim countries warmly.
ISCA has always been impressed by President Bush's leadership,
by his ability to make difficult decisions in the face of
extreme threats while, at the same time, promoting the principles
of tolerance that this great nation was built upon.
Shaykh
Kabbani said this wisdom was reflected in President Bush's
iftar address.
"President
Bush's speech was both perfect and pro-active. It shows the
sincerity of his commitment to serve America and the world
in a wise and ideal manner," he said. "The president
encouraged all people to remember the ties of faith and friendship
and to maintain respect for each other, especially in the
holiday season."
Shaykh
Kabbani added that President Bush's ability to work diligently
and without fatigue is evidence of a special gift of leadership
granted to him by God.
ISCA thanks
the president and the White House for welcoming the Muslim
community and honoring the holy month of Ramadan. We also
extend our greetings and wishes to the Muslim community world-wide.
