ISCA
Commends Congress for Support of Afghan Aid Bill
Bill will provide $3.3 billion to help rebuild
Afghanistan
WASHINGTON,
DC - The Islamic Supreme Council of America (ISCA)
commends Congress for passing the "Afghanistan Freedom
Support Act of 2002" (S. 2712), a bill which will provide
more than $3 billion in short and long-term reconstruction
aid to the long-suffering people of that beleaguered nation.
"In
approving this bill, Congress has taken a big step toward
fulfilling America's commitment to the Afghan people,"
said ISCA Chairman Shaykh Muhammad Hisham Kabbani. "It
also demonstrates to the world that America is sincere when
it says that the war against terror is not a war against Islam.
This money will make a big difference in the lives of many
Muslims."
The bill,
which passed the Senate on Thursday, November 14, and the
House of Representatives on Friday, November 15, enjoyed strong
bipartisan support. It will provide $3.3 billion in aid to
Afghanistan over four years. It is now pending final approval
by the president.
ISCA waits
with eager anticipation for President George Bush to sign
the Afghanistan Freedom Support Act, which will continue the
process of rebuilding Afghanistan, providing hope and opportunity
for all its citizens.
